GS Group presented a case study on establishing the CSR program in Technopolis GS01.12.2014
The CSR program conducted by the GS Group holding company was presented at the national conference “Corporate social responsibility-2014/2015” held in Moscow on November 28, 2014. The program is carried out at the innovation cluster Technopolis GS in the town of Gusev, Kaliningrad region. The conference attendees included representatives of PR- and HR departments of the leading Russian and foreign companies such as Coca Cola HBC Eurasia, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus, Alfa Bank, Lukoil, Uralsib, MegaFon, Russian Public Opinion Research Center and others.
Rimma Sorokina, representative of the Department of Strategic Marketing, GS Group, presented a case study on the CSR program that is brought into action in Technopolis GS. The program is implemented within a long-term strategy of the holding company in the Kaliningrad region and is focused on the development of social and cultural environment that provides international standard of quality of life for employees of cluster enterprises and their families. These activities help to attract talented specialists from Russia and abroad to enterprises and turn into the additional growth driver of the regional economy. The case study on establishing a CSR program in Technopolis GS was the only project presented at the conference that embraces a series of actions on development of the surrounding area in addition to internal programs.
The key area of corporate social responsibility programs in the Technopolis GS is cooperation with secondary and higher educational institutions to attract and support highly qualified young professionals. The holding company carries out the master's programme in the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, and the first graduate was employed by one of the cluster enterprises in 2014. Moreover, GS Group collaborates with students of Petrozavodsk State University and St. Petersburg State University, holds career guidance tours for school students on a regular basis and arranges international math and physics contests for high school students from non-capital cities. The winners of these contests receive personalized scholarships for one academic year provided they enter the field-specific universities for professions that are in demand in the cluster. In addition, GS Group actively supports children living in orphanages of Gusev municipal district, conducts guided tours to the Technopolis GS enterprises for them and organizes the mini-football tournaments.
The project embracing activities to restore military burials sites of World War I in the territory of Kaliningrad region perfromed by volunteers among the employees of Technopolis GS over the past year achieved great success. Among the results of volunteer activities was launching the website dedicated to the tourist itineraries around the historical sites of World War I. An environmental program is regularly performed in the Gusev municipal district; it helped collecting and processing over 8.5 tons of paper and 300 kg of plastics last year. Free international music festival the Day of Technopolis GS, annually attracting up to 10,000 spectators, is another important initiative for the Kaliningrad region. Besides that, GS Group regularly organizes cultural and sport events for the innovation cluster employees, carries out the prevention of occupational health problems and supports a healthy lifestyle. In 2014, the GS Group holding company launched the Creative platform GS Fund that aims to support social and cultural initiatives of the cluster employees and residents of Gusev.
The corporate social responsibility program by the GS Group holding company was for the first time ever presented to the expert community and received positive feedback from the conference attendees. The participants particularly noted collaboration with universities and social program on providing affordable housing for specialists.
Conference "Corporate social responsibility–2014/2015" held on November 27-28, 2014 brought together PR- and HR Directors, Directors for External and Internal Communications, Directors of CSR. Other subjects for discussion included the issues of establishing the CSR system, features of cooperation with government institutions, ways to organize work with Media to have free coverage of the social projects under implementation, tools to measure the effectiveness of programs etc.
