In Memory of a Forgotten War that Changed the Course of History sculptural composition by the Russian-American painter and sculptor Mihail Chemiakin takes central place on park grounds of approximately 3 hectares. There are also statuary by modern sculptors and stands with historical notes on World War I on the territory of the memorial.
The sculptural composition in honor of 100-year-old events consists of three figures: a haggard soldier stretched on a wheel and two women—a widow and a mother—who personify grief of the families of those who died in the war. The base is represented by bombed cabinets with photographs of soldiers, war documents, and maps of the participating countries embedded in their ruins.
The sculptural composition In Memory of a Forgotten War that Changed the Course of History has become an important landmark in the eastern part of Kaliningrad Region. Every year, thousands of tourists visit Gusev to look at this truly symbolic monument, pay their respects to the memory of those who died during World War I, and stroll through the memorial park.
