GS Group experience and vision: why does Russian need technopolises

GS Group holding presented at St. Petersburg Technical Fair its very own private innovation cluster Technopolis GS as a successfully implemented and promising model for the development of Russian small towns.

In the course of the event, held from 12 to 14 March, representatives of GS Group explained how Russian private industrial parks can be a powerful driver of innovation.

Andrey Bezrukov, Director for Strategic Marketing, GS Group, told the audience about the corporate innovation infrastructure as an investment in the future, using as an example in his report the innovation cluster Technopolis GS, which GS Group holding has been developing in the Kaliningrad region since 2008. The speaker from GS Group spoke at the conference dedicated to attracting investment and promoting innovation in corporations which was held as part of the St. Petersburg Technical Fair. Participants were particularly interested in issues such as support and funding for production start-ups.

GS Group delegate presented Technopolis GS as an effective model for the development of small towns in Russia. The holding by sing the example of its own cluster proved that industrial diversification in a small town can be successfully implemented on the basis of a private innovation cluster.

GS Group began the development of Technopolis GS cluster in 2008 near the town of Gusev, Kaliningrad region. Its population does not exceed 30 thousand people. Since the time the project kicked off, six modern enterprises have been launched within Technopolis GS that manufacture products in a variety of fields, ranging from micro-and consumer electronics to nano-materials and innovative construction. Technopolis GS is the largest employer in the town of Gusev. As of January 2014 the number of its employees accounted to 2,000. In accordance with the development plan, by 2016 this figure is expected to grow up to 5000 people, no less than 3000 of which will be employed in high technologies. According to the Director of Strategic Marketing technopolises with strong innovation infrastructure can be an effective way to realize the industrial potential of Russia’s small towns, this model being backed the successful example of Technopolis GS.
